I Found a Comfy Version of Summer’s ‘It’ Shoe Hollywood Loves

One of my favorite ways to get inspired before revamping my wardrobe is to note what trends are on the rise in Hollywood. Lately, the one shoe style that’s taken spring by storm has been seen on Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lawrence, and Zendaya—the Mary Jane. 

While I associate the closed-toe style with a single cross strap as my footwear of choice in elementary school, the age-old trope that ‘everything old becomes new again’ is alive and well, and the Mary Jane is proof. Just in time for summer, another footwear trend is piggybacking off of Mary Jane’s popularity, and I’m here for it. Mesh flats are on the rise, so I opted for both trends in one with Wild Fable’s Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats at Target.

If I’m being completely honest, ballet flats are usually a shoe style I pass on because they’ve never been supportive enough, and wearing them often results in blisters. However, I can’t sing this $30 style’s praises enough; they were comfortable straight out of the box, and I’ve already worn them while walking in New York City with zero pain.

The mesh looks incredibly summery and is a game-changer for keeping my feet cool by promoting airflow that doesn’t make my feet sweaty and slippery as they do in classic flats. On top of the breathable mesh, the memory foam insole feels like walking on clouds, and the outsole has ample traction that feels stable on all kinds of surfaces. 

Now that I’m such a fan of the mesh style, I’m highly considering grabbing another pair in classic black. Shoppers are just as big of fans of the style as I am, and numerous reviews spoke to how comfortable they are.
