2025 Fashion Trends – Is silk à la mode?

Glamourdaze takes a peek at some potential 2025 fashion trends. Animal prints, silk ties, sequins, oversized bags. There is no style that is old.

Animal prints

Animal prints have endured a turbulent relationship with fashion lovers over the decades. Oscillating between being seen as classy and trashy. This year, though, they’re most definitely the former.

Plus, while traditionally it has been leopard print that has been most popular – it’s always in favor with fashion icon Kate Moss – 2025 will see a wider variety of animal prints making their mark, from zebra stripes to cheetah spots and snake prints. What’s more, with textures taking center stage in 2025, expect to see animal prints in luxurious fabrics such as silk and velvet, creating an undeniably classy look!   

Asymmetry

From uneven hemlines to one-shoulder tops, asymmetrical styles are a pronounced trend this year. Rising to prominence last year, as they became a firm favorite with Charli XCX during her Brat tour, they are here to stay in 2025. In particular, look out for ruffled skirts with daring asymmetrical cuts that create dazzling movement and a feminine swish. Pair with a simple sweater in the daytime or a silk blouse in the evening.

Asymmetrical tops are also at the forefront of 2025’s fashion trends, with off-the-shoulder numbers and one-shoulder designs. In line with the year’s ethos, these looks are all about moving away from the traditional and celebrating individuality and imperfection.

Italian silk ties

Continuing the trend of self-expression is the silk tie. This accessory graced many a runway in the SS25 shows, as models donned oversized menswear suits paired with an immaculately tied silk tie. Blurring the distinction between men’s and womenswear, Italian silk ties allow for individuality, kookiness, and playful sophistication. Above all, Italian silk ties are the ultimate accessory for self-expression and redefining gender-neutral elegance – both musts for 2025.

As well as eroding traditional gender categories, Italian silk ties are on-point for their sustainability. Silk is renewable and biodegradable so – unlike synthetic fabrics – it doesn’t contribute to long-term waste. Its production also involves less chemical treatment, which means its environmental footprint is smaller. Sustainable and an enabler of self-expression? We think Italian silk ties are here to stay!

Styled sportswear – 2025 fashion trends

Sportswear has been on-trend for the past couple of seasons, but 2025 is set to see the lines between athletic attire and fashion finesse well and truly blurred. Instead of the bold, retro sweatpants that graced last year’s runways, 2025 is all about sportswear with a softer, more feminine touch. In line with the pastel shades that are also making their mark, you can also expect yoga wear and ballet attire to gain prominence. 

Loungewear, which soared in popularity last year, is also here to stay, although likely with a focus on luxury fabrics such as velvet, along with bold, nature-inspired prints and vibrant color palettes. If you’re loathed to part with your sweatpants, fear not: In 2025, embrace effortless chic and style them with heels and an oversized bag. 

Aquatic-inspired tones and motifs

Along with a general trend to softer, more muted pastels, this year is also sure to see a rise in aquatic tones, from pale turquoise to rich aquamarines and soft teal hues. And, since nature-inspired motifs and prints are also hugely popular, we are guaranteed to see a whole range of beautiful ocean-inspired patterns, including everything from coral designs to dolphins, seashells, and starfish. 

Moreover, in line with a wider trend embracing the whimsical, you can also expect to see mermaid-inspired dresses, metallic colors, and shimmering fabrics, including silk, which brings along welcome ephemeral qualities – not to mention a sense of undeniable luxury and drama. 

Oversized bags

The micro bag is well and truly out this year, and it’s been replaced by its oversized cousin. This is not least thanks to their inherent practicality – you really can fit a lot in one! – but also because they’re so versatile. Whether you’re heading to work and need somewhere to store your lunch and cardigan, the gym where you’ll need a water bottle, towel, and spare clothes, or you’re simply out shopping, the oversized bag works. Did you know that some people refer to this type of cavernous bag as a “baguette carrier”?! This, of course, refers to the iconic image of the French shopper strolling home after a visit to the boulangerie, with a baguette poking out of the top of their bag! 

Like most fashion accessories, the oversized bag is not purely about practicality; it’s also a canvas to showcase textures, patterns, and colors, adding an accent and focal point to your outfit. From slouchy shoulder bags to structured satchels, there are plenty of options allowing you to marry practicality and individual style. 

Sequins

With the focus on self-expression, textures, and drama, sequins are set to be a firm favorite for 2025. Once reserved for evening gowns and party outfits, today, sequins don’t look out of place anywhere!

This small, literally dazzling disc has a long and fascinating history. Did you know that this French word is thought to come from the Arabic word sikka (which means coin or minting die)? This went on to become the Venetian term zecchino (also a type of coin) and eventually made it into the French language (today’s term sequin, which English has used to replace the term “spangles”). 

This etymology points to the sequin’s longstanding links with affluence and grandeur, which is perhaps behind its current resurgence. Acts such as Taylor Swift, Madonna, and Beyoncé have all dazzled us with their bejeweled outfits over recent years, but now they can be a part of your everyday outfit. Adorning everything from tailored blazers to casual sweaters, expect to see plenty of sparkle in the coming months. 

2025 promises to be a year filled with bold and daring fashion moments. It’s the time to prioritize self-expression while promoting high-quality, sustainable fabrics such as silk. This year, stay true to your personal aesthetic and embrace the year where luxury and individuality reign supreme!
