Billy Porter’s Dress Sparkles at Juneteenth White House Concert
Billy Porter made a dazzling entrance at the White House’s Juneteenth concert on Monday in Washington, D.C.
The “Pose” star sported a rainbow sequined caftan by Kaftko, which features a plunging neckline and a mesh lining. Porter accessorized with bedazzled ankle boots, wearing his highlighted shoulder-length hair down.
The actor and singer sat beside Vice President Kamala Harris, who wore a blush-toned suit, and her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff. President Joe Biden and members of George Floyd’s family, including his brother Philonise, were also in the same row.
Biden declared June 19 a national holiday in 2021. Also known as Jubilee Day, Juneteenth marks the ending of slavery in the U.S. Celebrations date back to 1866 following the enforcement of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
Singers Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Patina Miller, among others, performed at the White House in honor of Juneteenth.
“I was proud to have made Juneteenth a federal holiday and I’m grateful to the members of Congress who are here today who helped make it possible,” Biden said in his remarks. “Black history is American history. That’s why Kamala and I and our administration will always uplift it and protect it.”
Porter has a history with Kaftko, having released a Pride-themed collection with the clothing retailer in 2022.
