Fashion Icons and Icons in the Making

Heidi Klum’s Butter Yellow Manicure Is Perfect for Summer Sunshine

Admit it: butter yellow is the softest, easygoing color trend we’ve seen in a while. Barbie pink, cherry red, and faraway Bottega green were iconic, but they were polarizing. Wearing a hot pink top is a bold choice, whether you’d describe yourself as a maximalist or not. And, even though yellow feels like a bright, in-your-face shade, the lighter trending take on the color is made for summer. Heidi Klum’s latest manicure is proof.

On June 1, celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik (who crafted Selena Gomez’s Cannes red nails and regularly works with J.Lo and Camila Cabello) posted a sweet message to Klum on Instagram for her birthday. In the photo, the model and mogul is holding up a coffee mug and wearing her signature wispy bangs, and we couldn’t help but notice her chic buttery yellow nails.

Klum’s manicure was painted on long stiletto nails and was a solid coat of a soft yellow shade. The no-fuss manicure didn’t feature any sparkles or chrome, but it didn’t need to. The buttery shade was playful and simple, and was a fun touch of color without feeling overly neon or bright.

Since her manicure was on the simple side, it’s easy to re-create at home and the sunny shade is perfect for warm summer days. For a similar look try Olive And June’s Sunny, O.P.I’s Blinded By The Ring Light, and Essie’s All Fun & Games. File your nails in the shape of your choice and apply two coats of polish (pro tip: start with a white base coat to make pastels pop). After they dry, finish with a glossy top coat.

Butter-yellow nails are confirmed to be one of summer’s biggest nail trends. Nail artist and Essie global lead educator, Rita Remark, previously told Byrdie that soft, Palm-Beach inspired colors that channel ” the shades of retro pool furniture: coral, dusty cherry, sunset orange, sunny yellow and, yes, peach fuzz,” will be popular throughout the season.
