Helen Mirren’s Glowy Complexion Was Thanks to This $8 Skin Tint
The sun is shining, and after spending the weekend walking all around New York City—with a few sitting, sun-tanning breaks in between steps—I developed a nice bronzed summer glow. I want to have the perfect summer tan by the time my July wedding rolls around, but I know that even if I’m able to safely achieve that (aka, sunscreen applied in abundance!), I’ll want a little something extra for walking down the aisle.
That something? I didn’t know what it was, until I saw Helen Mirren’s 2024 Cannes Film Festival glow and learned the secret behind her perfect complexion: L’Oréal Paris Lumi Glotion. The star walked the red carpet in the most gorgeous grape juice-inspired gown with a crossover front, long sleeves, and voluminous, XXL long train. She paired said style moment with a slicked-back bob, coordinating makeup that included a soft-purple eye and light-pink lip, and, of course, a dewy, filter-like complexion.
L’Oréal Paris Lumi Glotion
Mirren isn’t the first celebrity to rely on the famous illuminating skin tint to boost her complexion before summer’s glow has actually kicked in. Martha Stewart is a fan of the L’Oréal best-seller that comes in various shades. Currently on sale for $8, it has more than 27,000 five-star ratings on Amazon, with shoppers saying that the luminizer leaves a “very nice glow,” “has totally cut their makeup routine in half,” and is “very buildable, not overly sparkly, and looks really natural and pretty when applied.”
So, how does it work and what makes it so great? Well, it’s basically a glow-boosting lotion (hence the name, glotion). The brand describes it as glowy makeup product that also doubles as a highlighter, which basically means it can be used however you need. But its formula is what makes it so great—and mutli-faceted; it’s packed with glycerin and shea butter for ultimate hydration all-day long, as well as light-reflecting pearls for a luminous finish that gives that healthy, youthful glow Mirren so effortlessly showed off on the red carpet.
Come summer’s heat and humidity, it’s not always totally possible to wear a full face of foundation, but, you also don’t want to sacrifice that filter-like look—that’s where the lightweight L’Oréal Lumi Glotion comes into the picture. Shoppers who’ve used it in sweltering weather mentioned it’s “perfect for hot summer days,” with one noting, “it didn’t feel sticky or heavy.” The same can’t be said about most foundations, and that’s also why I think it’s going to be a total game changer for my July wedding in hot and humid Italy.
