Those familiar with sports, may also be familiar with a “hat trick,” a feat of some kind accomplished three times in one match. In a more glamorous approach, the fashion world had its own version of a hat trick Tuesday night. Down in Tribeca at Laura Gonzalez’s new gallery, this version was instead a joyous fête celebrating three of Europe’s most illustrious creatives, all in one evening.
Longtime friends and supporters of J. J. Martin, Laura Gonzalez and Mathilde Favier braved a rainy night to toast the co-hosts’ respective coffee table books: Martin’s Mamma Milano, Favier’s Living Beautifully in Paris, and Gonzalez’s Interiors.
The three friends came up with the idea to join forces and celebrate their books with a signing in New York during their last summer vacation together in Sicily. Martin, the founder of maximalist fashion and lifestyle brand, La DoubleJ, and Gonzalez, the AD100 designer behind the Cartier Mansion in New York and Paris’ famed Lapérouse and Saint James Hotel, wore dresses from the latest La DoubleJ collection. Meanwhile, Favier, the press director of Dior Couture, wore Dior, naturally. Those sauntering about discussing holiday plans, enjoying the lavish spread catered by Lev NYC, and savoring flutes of champagne from Moet & Chandon, included Elle Macpherson, Helena Christensen, Sofia Coppola, Derek Blasberg, Sabine Getty, Amy Astley, Brianna Lance, Fabiola Beracasa, Olivia Palermo, Katie Sturino, and Shirin von Wulffen. It appears a bit of heavy rainfall won’t stop the most diehard of fashion types!
