Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon Teased ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3
It’s time to queue up Big Little Lies for another re-watch, because Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman gave an update that’ll have fans ready to slip into their coziest sweaters and soak up the coastal air. In a Vanity Fair video published yesterday, the stars gave us all an update on the show’s third season, which fans have been waiting for since the series’s critically acclaimed first and second seasons wrapped, which was way back in 2019.
“Listen, this one already went somewhere and said too much,” Witherspoon said, referencing an incident when Kidman shared that a third season of the show was coming last year. “I get the ring-ring, ‘Hey, is that happening?’ Nic! You got excited.” Apparently, when the news dropped, costars Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dean called Witherspoon to see what it was all about.
Kidman admitted, “I got excited.”
Thankfully, things are moving for real, with Kidman confirming that Liane Moriarty is hard at work and the cast is ready to reunite.
“But we are now!” Kidman shared. “We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. We’re in good shape.”
Moriarty wrote the book that the show was based on—but only the first season. She was also an executive producer on the beloved series. The show’s sophomore season was inspired by an unpublished novella and it’s still not clear whether or not Moriarty is working on a book that will inspire a third season or if she’s just working on releasing her next novel. A representative for HBO told Entertainment Weekly that there wasn’t any information on the show’s status.
Kidman went on to say that everyone’s just waiting for the word to get their bags packed and get to work. She explained that all that’s left is to “shut up, because there’s the whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it.” She added, “Because if you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it. Did you know that?”
Witherspoon said that she’s less forthcoming about sharing news about her projects, saying, “I don’t want to talk about it until I’m standing in the costume on the set. Then, I will confirm to you that it is happening, because it’s really hard to stop it once you’re on set in costume.”
