On the Podcast: Vogue’s Spring Beauty Update—And Angel Reese’s Look at the WNBA draft
How many times a day should we be washing and cleansing our faces? And is it a good idea to get injectables the week before your wedding? (The answer to the latter question is a resounding no.) To get to the bottom of these queries, this week Chioma sat down with Jessica Diner, Vogue’s global beauty and wellness director, and Hannah Coates, British Vogue’s digital beauty editor.
The trio dove into British Vogue’s May issue, beginning with a robust discussion of Lena Dunham’s story about nail trends, and the pros and cons of long nails (pro: you look put together; con: you can’t put your contacts in). They then moved into the dicey topic of “perception drift,” or the state of permanent dissatisfaction that can arise from getting too many cosmetic procedures. In the past, it seemed taboo to talk about injectables, but now that times have changed, Jessica encourages people considering these kinds of procedures to find a doctor they trust.
Later, Hannah—an expert on all things wellness—shared her latest findings on beans (yes, beans!) as a superfood, as well as the slightly mystifying obsession with colostrum, a nutrient-rich milk used in Sofia Richie Grainge’s viral Erewhon smoothie. Then, they all discussed the evergreen issue of how and when to wash and cleanse your face, as well as the fascination teens and tweens seem to have with skincare. As with most things in life, there is no-one-size-fits-all approach, but both Hannah and Jessica are fans of gently washing their faces with a flannel. (Americans, that’s a washcloth.)
Also on this episode, Chloe and Chioma talk about the big week that Brooklyn had in fashion—from the Dior pre-fall collection showing at the Brooklyn Museum to the WNBA draft at BAM. They marveled at the looks sported by Angel Reese (who wore Bronx and Banco) and Caitlin Clark (Prada) before turning to last weekend’s historic festivities at Coachella, when Doja Cat became the first female rapper to headline, and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were among the festival-goers. Taylor seems to be letting loose and shaking it off before her album, The Tortured Poets Department, drops tomorrow. Swifties, stand by!
