Selena Gomez Opens Up About Keeping “Levelheaded” People Around Her
Selena Gomez recently opened up about the difficulties of finding friends within the same industry and instead surrounding herself with “levelheaded” people.
The Only Murders in the Building star and Rare Beauty founder was recently profiled in a wide-ranging interview with TIME on her beauty brand which is now worth an estimated $2 billion and the continued success of her popular Hulu show. Gomez has also remained candid about prioritizing her mental health and giving back with her Rare Impact Fund.
While discussing her own mental health, Gomez spoke about who she spends time with and how “deliberate” she tries to be.
“It’s a cliché, but girls are mean,” Gomez said. “It’s a very weird competition, being in the cool girls area—and then I’m just kind of like, there. I don’t know where I’m meant to belong.”
The publication also noted that she said her best friends are a “real estate agent, a producer, and a casting director,” although she did not mention her close friendship with Taylor Swift.
“I love having levelheaded people around that couldn’t give two f-cks about what I do,” Gomez said.
After talking about her friendships, Gomez also noted how she works closely with the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy on his research on the loneliness epidemic.
“It’s hard,” she continued. “You could be in a crowd of people and still feel alone. I still deal with that.”
Selena Gomez, whose been gushing over her recent relationship with Benny Blanco, also recently gave a friend advice on dealing with heartbreak, saying that “You have to go through it.”
“You can distract yourself and you can deny and deny all you want, but it’ll still be there,” Gomez said. “I just allow myself to have those days.”
