Skall Studio Turns Ten At Copenhagen Fashion Week 2024
For sisters Julie and Marie Skall, the bucolic setting of Brøndsalen’s P.C Bønecke-designed space in Frederiksberg perfectly captured the ease and sophistication of Skall Studio’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. When explaining what influenced the brand’s latest offering, though, it’s not a place but a person who served as a key source of inspiration.
“We have always been fascinated by style icon Loulou de la Falaise,” Julie tells me about the original haute bohémienne. “Her style appeals to us as avant-garde yet feminine. This appears in the SS25 collection in terms of delicate colours, print, and a meeting between the ultra-feminine and masculine.”
“Also, in general, nature has always been a source of inspiration, perhaps because we grew up in Northern Jutland surrounded by nature,” adds Marie. “This is always reflected in our collections in terms of natural fibres like wool, linen and cotton; for example, our Danish knitwear production is made from Danish wool, which is always part of our collections, even in summer.”
Celebrating ten years in business, the sisters have come a long way, both in business and in their creative direction, building out a strong brand identity that has quickly become synonymous with the Danish capital. For this, the design duo credits their unwavering design ethos: a deep regard for the planet that has guided every step of their journey.
“Skall Studio is founded on some strong values, including animal welfare, a wish to only use natural fibres, a love for craftsmanship, and a focus on seasonless styles that are made to last,” says Marie.
“We have always been able to stick to our values, also while we have been growing. Our values are very essential to us.”
“But, of course, a lot has happened since we started out ten years ago,” quips Julie. “We have opened a flagship store in Copenhagen, our team has grown, we are present in Paris during Paris Fashion Week, and we have a pop-up store in Paris—just to name a few things.”
Of all their accomplishments, though, it’s their enduring commitment to sustainability that they’re most proud to be able to continue. Though the fashion industry always has room for improvement on this front, the sisters are thrilled that environmentally friendly practices are becoming the norm.
“When we founded Skall Studio ten years ago, sustainability was still a new word,” explains Julie. “The fact that the industry has shifted towards a more sustainable focus is indeed exciting and important for what we are doing.”
Beautifully winsome without compromising on maturity, the new collection brought together a quintessential Spring wardrobe offering with relaxed tailoring and clean silhouettes emboldened by feminine details like embroidered florals and broderie anglaise. Handmade Jute belts in brown and black also cinched in waists when layered over skirts and roomier jackets.
Neutral tones, including a particularly intriguing stoney-taupe, softened boxier shapes, while unfussy styling contextualised modest pieces for a more contemporary take.
