Suri Cruise Announced She’s Going to College on TikTok

Now that high school is over, it looks like Suri Cruise’s newest mission is going to college. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s daughter, who’s stayed out of the spotlight in recent years years, hinted at her future college plans in a ”commitment day” TikTok shared to a classmate’s account on May 20. The 18-year-old grad, who currently attends performing arts school LaGuardia High School in New York City, couldn’t stop smiling as she seemingly announced which university she’d be attending.

In the TikTok, which was captioned “LaG commitment day,” Cruise joined her other classmates in wearing sweatshirts announcing where they were planning on going to college. As Miley Cyrus’s song “I’ll Always Remember You” from Hannah Montana played in the background, Suri and her friends danced in the halls of their school and showed off their future alma maters. The high school senior made a silly face for the camera and pointed towards her chest to show off a bright red sweatshirt with “Carnegie Mellon” printed in white lettering on it. 

While Cruise didn’t confirm what she’ll be studying in school (although reports suggest she’s interested in a fashion track), her mom Katie said she hoped her daughter would continue to be involved in some of her future projects.

In an April 2023 interview with Glamour, Holmes talked about what it was like having Suri sing songs in her 2022 movie Alone Together and the 2023 Rare Objects. 

“I hope she always does something on my films,” she said. “I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space.”

She continued, “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

However, the Dawson’s Creek alum said she’d also struggled with figuring out how much to “protect” Suri from the spotlight.

“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she said. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
