Taylor Swift Stops an Eras Tour Show to Help a Fan
For Taylor Swift, the age-old showbiz motto of “the show must go on” is more of a guideline than a rule. Of course, Tay Tay will almost always persevere through her epic three-hour Eras Tour setlist. She has battled on through wardrobe malfunctions, technical mishaps, even a swallowed bug—but there is one thing that will always stop her in her tracks: a fan in need.
At last night’s stop in Edinburgh, Scotland, Swift spotted a fan in the crowd who appeared to be in distress. While she was singing a mash-up of “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” and “I Know Places,” the first song in her acoustic set, the singer suddenly stopped singing and tried to direct security guards in the fan’s direction. “Right there in front of me… going to keep playing until somebody notices… right there, I am just going to keep playing until someone helps them,” she said, as she continued playing her guitar.
When the security guards struggled to find the fan, Swift simply continued to encourage them.
“I will keep singing this song… we are not going to keep singing but we will just keep talking… just let me know…. I could do this all night,” she said.
Finally, after about a minute of stalling, Swift saw the fan was helped. “We’re good? Awesome,” she said, before she continued with the song.
After the pause, however, it seemed that Swift’s hand had cramped up from strumming on the guitar for so long. “My hand has frozen in a weird cramp,” she said, pausing again and laughing. “I’m going to do some warm ups. This is so embarrassing, it really is.”
This isn’t the first time that Swift has looked out for her fans in the crowd and boldly stopped her show to help them out. Just a few days ago, Swift stopped a show in Lyon to guide security guards to another fan in need—in French, no less. At a show in Philedelphia last year, Swift interrupted her performance of “Bad Blood” to come to a fan’s aid who had been approached by a security guard. “She’s fine, she wasn’t doing anything!” Swift shouted, adding, “Hey, stop!” The moment went viral and was even turned into a fan chant.
Last night’s show in Edinburgh marked Swift’s first UK show on her European leg of the Eras Tour. Swift has added some new touches to her show since her North American leg last year. For one thing, the show features a new set for her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department—complete with a few little Travis Kelce references, naturally. The pop star has also added a few new ‘fits into her tour wardrobe. But one thing hasn’t changed: Swift is still keeping an eye out for the fans.
