The Best Fashion Moments at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival
Sartorially speaking, it’s been a dramatic week along the Cotê d’Azur. This year at the Cannes Film Festival, perhaps more so than any other, haute couture took centre stage at the Grand Lumière Theatre. Demi Moore set hearts racing in a sculptural champagne gown plucked from Schiparelli’s Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture collection. Margaret Qualley opted for two Chanel Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture numbers—the standout a soft pink tulle gown. Its delicate beading held in place intricate gathering at its bodice before descending into layers of tulle at its bottom, the latter dramatically catching the breeze at the premiere of she and Moore’s new film.
Custom creations were also aplenty. Hunter Schafer arrived at the Kinds Of Kindness premiere—the actor’s first time on a Cannes red carpet—in a custom made Armani Privé gown. One which looked like reflective liquid and was reportedly inspired by the House’s Spring 2011 couture collection.
Australian designer Rebecca Vallance created two custom gowns for Nicky Hilton: one an embellished off-the-shoulder column dress with the house’s signature bows (handmade with 2000 crystals) and a long carolina blue train. The other a stunning baby blue halter neck with a plunging neckline, full internal corsetry and thigh-high split. It took 1000 hours to make and featured 5000 crystals. Vallance joined Hilton and wore a nude mesh beaded dress for the occasion which was entirely handmade. It took 1400 hours to make and was made up of 20,000 crystals, 50,000 beads and 40,000 sequins. The best friends were attending the festivities as guests of Chopard.
Off-duty style did not disappoint either. Schafer again won the title early in a white bodice, wrap skirt and head scarf courtesy of Prada. Sienna Miller, who is Cannes promoting her film Horizon: An American Saga, wore oversized jeans and a blazer—hardly as normal as it sounds—from Schiaparelli’s SS24 ready-to-wear collection. And another Australian designer, Rachel Gilbert, was spotted on the beautiful Eva Longoria as the actor exited Hôtel Martinez.
