These Statement Accessories Transformed My Style
It’s an age-old trick: When in doubt, accessorize. Whether you have a more minimalist closet or one of the Cher Horowitz variety, you know that no outfit is complete without a good accessory (or two, or three… ) These notable add-ons have the power to completely transform any less-than-exciting look, or enhance an already statement-worthy ensemble. This is exactly why I’ve recently shifted gears away from purchasing new clothes and into shopping for accessories.
With fall weather on the horizon, I can’t help but feel disheartened that the sunny season is already wrapping up. Though, isn’t that just the way summer goes? Your warm-weather style finally hits its peak, and then you’re suddenly inundated with fall marketing campaigns. Like me, you’re probably wondering how to stretch your summer wardrobe and avoid swiping your card again until the new season truly arrives (read: temps finally dip beneath 75) in a month or so. In a quest to avoid clothes shopping until further notice, I’m sharing the five staple accessories that have totally rewired the way I feel about my closet.
A Silk Scarf
A silk scarf oozes with versatility, whether fastened to your bag or looped around your ponytail, this vintage-inspired piece can be worn in limitless ways. When it comes to bridging the gap between seasons, this silk addition does just the trick. Instead of purchasing a new bag at the height of summer, I opted for tying an Amalfi-inspired silk scarf around my winter bag and never resumed shopping for that raffia tote.
A Studded Belt
More often than not, you’ll catch me wearing a belt; not because my trousers need the extra support, but because it’s an easy way to level up any look. The best part is that you really only need one or two good belts in your rotation: one that’s classic and versatile, and one that’s statement-making.
A Beaded Necklace
If you’ve yet to see the trendy necklaces of late, know that they’re every bit as colorful as they are fun. Though I always suggest wearing what speaks to you rather than what’s considered trendy, I have found that the color and texture provided by a beaded necklace is exactly what I’ve been missing when it comes to outfitting.
A Pair of Statement Sunnies
Some of us may look at a pair of sunglasses from a purely functional perspective, but I promise that they can make a bigger statement than you think. I don’t mean that you need to run out and buy the most expensive pair–my favorite sunnies happen to be from Amazon–but I do recommend investing in a pair that will contribute to your outfit in a significant way.
A Colorful Bag
Although I am a maximalist at heart, I generally buy bags that are more geared towards year-round wear; however, I recently stumbled upon a couple of colorful bags that have leveled up my otherwise one-dimensional looks. I legitimately feel like a new woman with my new yellow bag in tow. Now, whenever I feel like my outfit is feeling a bit lackluster, I set down my neutral bags and reach for a pop of color instead.
